A small language tip

Kecha nima qilding?
Ask a friend what they did yesterday. Qilding means “you did”. A respectful question is Kecha nima qildingiz?.

Bobomga qo'ng'iroq qildim.
Bobo means grandfather; bobom means my grandfather. Bobomga adds -ga to show who received the call. Qildim means “I did”.

Nima haqida gaplashdingiz?
Here the question asks what Ali and his grandfather talked about. Qilding addresses Ali alone, while gaplashdingiz here refers to the two people in the conversation.

Maktab haqida gaplashdik.
This means “We talked about school”. The ending -dik here shows that we did the action.

Family & Culture Note

Before a family call, choose one topic you would like to talk about. School, family, or football can be familiar starting points. After the call, practise saying whom you called and what you talked about using the sentences in this lesson.

The call to a grandfather is Ali's story. If it does not fit your experience, practise with an imaginary call. You can also share memories of family conversations or think of some news you would like to tell a relative who lives far away.
