Learn Uzbek — Lesson 22: What are you doing?

← Study Uzbek · Review Lesson 21

Nima qilyapsan? · What are you doing?

In Lesson 21, you talked about what you were reading. Now join Madina and Ali to ask and answer about other activities happening now.

Today’s goal: Ask what a friend is doing now and answer with drawing or doing homework.

Read the conversation

Madina and Ali discuss drawing and doing homework in Uzbek

What are you doing?
Ali: Rasm chizyapman. Sen-chi?
I'm drawing. And you?
Madina: Men uy vazifamni qilyapman.
I'm doing my homework.

A small language tip

Nima qilyapsan?
Use this informal question to ask a friend what they are doing now.

Respectful form: Nima qilyapsiz?

qilyapman — I am doing
qilyapsan — you are doing

Like o'qiyapman from Lesson 21, these forms describe actions happening now.

Rasm chizyapman.
This means “I am drawing”. Use chizyapman for drawing a picture.

Men uy vazifamni qilyapman.
This means “I am doing my homework”. Uy vazifam means “my homework”; -ni marks it as the object of the action here.

Connect with Lesson 21

Family & Culture Note

Take turns acting out reading, drawing, or doing homework. Your partner asks Nima qilyapsan? and listens to the answer. You can role-play an activity even if it is not something you usually do together.

If you draw together, choose a favourite family place or a day you remember. Discuss the picture in a comfortable language, then describe what you are doing now with a short Uzbek sentence from this lesson.
