A small language tip

Do'kon qayerda?
Qayerda? asks about location. Replace the shop with another place to make a new question.

Maktab qayerda?
Where is the school?

You can use the same question with a friend or an adult.

Ana u yerda.
Over there. Practise saying it while pointing.

maktab yonida
This means “next to the school”. Put yonida after the place name to say “next to” that place.

Try another place

Kutubxona qayerda?
Where is the library?

Maktab yonida.
Next to the school.

kutubxona — library

These locations are examples for practice. Change them to match places you know.

Your turn!

Family & Culture Note

Draw an imaginary neighbourhood together. Add a school, shop, and library, then describe which places are next to one another. You can practise entirely with your drawing instead of using your home address.

Ask a family member about a place they remember from a neighbourhood they used to live in. Sketch what was beside it and try a short exchange using qayerda? and yonida from this lesson.
